The U S F L...

was created in 1982 and played its first season of competitive football in 1983. The dominant teams, the Los Angeles Express and the New Jersey Generals, had huge fan followings. The Los Angeles Express regularly signed the best players, and the New York/New Jersey Generals had Donald Trump as an owner. Such NFL icons like Jim Kelly, Reggie White, and Herschel Walker all played in the USFL, as did current Hall-of-Famer Steve Young. Not only was this league competitive, it regularly drafted the best players out of college well before the NFL draft took place.

The All-American Football Conference...

was a professional American football league that challenged the established National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1949. One of the NFL’s most formidable challengers, the AAFC attracted many of the nation’s best players, produced one of pro football’s greatest teams, and introduced many lasting innovations to the game. However, the AAFC was ultimately unable to sustain itself in competition with the NFL. Three of its teams were admitted to the NFL, of which two survive today.

The Continental Football League...

The Continental Football League was an American football league played in North America from 1965 through 1969. It was established as a minor league. It had hoped to be the "major force" in professional football outside of the National Football League and American Football League. It owed its name, at least in part, to the Continental League, a proposed third Major League Baseball organization that influenced MLB significantly.

Bill Walsh, Ken Stabler, Sam Wyche and Otis Sistrunk were among a few players and coaches who would later gain fame in the NFL.

In 1968...

a small town along the Schuykill River in Pennsylvania gave birth to a football team. The Pottstown Firebirds only existed three seasons but their legend lives on. They gained notoriety through:

- Emmy award winning documentary produced by NFL Films '"The Pottstown Firebirds'"
- A book written by Jay Acton, entitled: "The Forgettables"
- A 'long distance relationship' with their fans remains, as an proactive community memory
- A subsequent documentary "Pottstown Revisited" produced 30 years post - original
