What do Michael Vick and the WFL Florida Blazers have in common?...
Tommy Reamon of course! Reamon was the scourge of the WFL in 1974, its leader in rushing and the league's Offensive MVP. He played for the Jacksonville Express the following season and did well enough to earn a shot with the Kansas City Chiefs, playing in eleven games for them in 1976. As a high school coach in Virginia, Reamon reminded fans of those WFL days when he often appeared in the news as the advisor for his young and talented quarterback, Mike Vick. When Vick was considering early leave from Virginia Tech for the NFL, Reamon again was the figure in the background that microphones often gravitated to for answers. The Florida Blazers had a rough road, starting life as the Washington Ambassadors and "moving to" Virginia before ever playing a down of football. Unable to find a suitable playing site in Virginia, they were hurriedly moved to Orlando and christened as the Blazers not long before the WFL season kicked off. The true star of their team was Jack Pardee whose masterful coaching led them to the title game and which he used as a first step towards a lengthy NFL coaching career.
