Beginning life as what could be called "The Junior Jets"...

the New York Stars looked to be a promising team on paper. Peppered with former New York Jets "name" players, the New York entry of the World Football League had an excellent coach in another ex-Jet Babe Parilli. The defensive line was built upon Gerry Philbin and John Elliot, both legitimate AFL stars who anchored the Jets Super Bowl winning defense a few years before. Former Jets receiver George Sauer, Jr. led the offense which also had an unknown backup quarterback out of Purdue, Gary Danielson.
