The Portland Storm also had a few controversial players...
who were better known for their legal problems than their football ability. Leon Burns was one of the better known Storm players. He first came to public light during his senior season at Long Beach State where at 6'2" and 230 pounds, he reportedly bench pressed five hundred pounds and ran a 9.6 100 yard sprint. As one scout purportedly stated, "He might bench press five hundred and he might run a 9.6 but probably not during the same day. I also won't be the guy to tell him that." The latter statement came in lieu of Burns' criminal record. He went from St. Mary's Prep in Berkeley to Laney Junior College to the California Legal System for a number of years. By the time he was completing his Long Beach State career, he was preparing to enter the NFL as a thirty-one year old rookie!
