The Kenosha Maroons...The Decatur Staleys...The Frankfort Yellow Jackets...
These teams sprang up then suddenly died but the men remained. Professional football never completely left “Small Town USA”. One such town is Pottstown Pennsylvania where a group of courageous men, too old for school but too young to hang up their cleats, played for The Pottstown Firebirds...a farm team of The Philadelphia Eagles. With the rocket arm of QB King Corcoran and the ferocious pass rush of DL Joe Blake they found their way and won the Atlantic Coast Football League championship in 1970. Unfortunately, their paths would not cross again. For professional football can be a "gypsy game" as the odds against success are great.
