Coached by the legendary Lester Patrick...
The Victoria Cougars road to the 1925 Stanley Cup took the team through Saskatoon and Calgary, before a showdown with the Montreal Canadians. Victoria disposed of both the Saskatoon Sheiks and the Calgary Tigers to capture the Western Canada Hockey League championship. The Cougars defeated the Canadians in a best-of-five series, winning three-games-to-one and outscoring Montreal 16-8. Three of the four games were held in Victoria, while the other was played in Vancouver. The Cougars moved to Detroit in 1926 and became the Detroit Cougars of the NHL. After being renamed the Falcons for two years, the team from Victoria would be christened with the most famous name on ice...The Detroit Red Wings.
