In 1959 the New Westminster Royals...
of the WHL ceased operations. Their players were combined with the Victoria Cougars roster for a year while Portland's Memorial Coliseum was completed. In 1960 the New Westminster franchise was moved to Portland. The Portland Buckaroos would become the greatest franchise to ever play in Portland and arguably the greatest to ever play in the old WHL. During their 14 seasons in the former WHL, “The Roos” would win eight regular season championships and three post season championships.
