Spokane Comets Collection

Better known by his nickname “Con”, “Connie” or even “Mad Dog”...

Madigan was familiar to Spokane fans from his days playing senior hockey with Vernon and Nelson. He would get his real break with the Spokane Comets before going on to a storied minor league career, primarily with the Portland Buckaroos. Connie “Mad Dog” Madigan would also get that “cup of coffee” in the big leagues with the St. Louis Blues in 1972-73 and land a cameo role in the timeless movie “Slapshot”, in 1977.

Spokane Jets Collection

A wild celebration followed the Spokane Jets’ 1970 victory...

over the Orillia Terriers. Of course the celebration by the hometown fans began just after the Jets won the Patton Cup in Winnipeg and lined up all night around the Coliseum to buy tickets. Following the Jets win in six games, fans spilled over the boards and onto the ice to get up close and personal when the Spokane Jets became the first United States based team to win Canada’s senior amateur championship and claim the Allan Cup.

1976 Spokane Flyers Collection

Commenting on his 1975-76 Spokane Flyers...

 1980 Spokane Flyers Collection

The 1979-80 Spokane Flyers won its last 15 games...

a senior hockey record for the city. The Flyers were 39-7-0 at home and scored an incredible 23 shorthanded goals on their way to claim the city’s 4th Allan Cup in the 1970’s. Only Winnipeg, which won five Allan Cups in a six year span from 1911 to 1916, had more cup wins in a shorter span.

“I’d say this was my best year in hockey. I had some good seasons in the NHL but they can’t top this one” said coach Ron Harris.
